Hi there my dear friends! These are being very difficult days for everyone and most of us are trapped at home searching for ways to survive and not lose our minds.
I have been asked on Twitter which other movies they can watch with Chris Evans as the main character and since Marvel movies are the most seen, I have thought of doing a list of 10 that are outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Before starting with this list, please stay safe and take this global situation seriously, just because it’s not in your city/town or not affecting you directly, does not mean that it’s something we can ignore or underestimate. If you wanna know more about my personal opinion or story go to my Twitter, now it’s time to have some fun!
I have already shared articles from some movies so click in the title to open them, and the others will redirect you to IMDb! And yeah, there are more movies and these are only my personal selection!
In this 2h long film directed by Bong Joon Ho, Chris plays Curtis, and we explore with him what this train really is, who are the people in the different classes and how they fight for survival and the chance of having a better life. It’s a complex movie that can be understood in different ways as I have encountered different opinions over the years and it’s one of my favorites!
In my opinion, this movie is a masterpiece!
Plot summary – In a future where a failed climate-change experiment has killed all life except for the lucky few who boarded the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe, a new class system emerges. Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, Ed Harris, John Hurt, Ko Asung, Tilda Swinton.
Ready to cry? Adventure yourself in this drama with Chris and the extraordinary Mckenna Grace, directed by Marc Webb. This story can both bring the best and worst out of the characters, read the summary below where I already explain a bit more:
Plot summary – Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child prodigy – his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) – in a coastal town in Florida. Frank’s plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary. Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary’s landlady and best friend. Jenny Slate is Mary’s teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.
Wait, you haven’t seen these movies yet? Am I starting to be that old? I grew up looking at magazines, searching to read new information about these movies and collecting posters!
Okay, this one is Marvel comic-related… But produced by 20th Century Fox!
Back when I wasn’t so sure why I admired some actors more than others, I found myself watching everything related to Chris Evans, Julian McMahon (hello there, obsession for the original Charmed show!) and Jessica Alba for being a great role model back then, plus, I’ve always been a geek!
Without needing any further introduction, because well, Fantastic Four are well known (fast summary: superheroes fight evil), here you have the official plot summary for both of them:
Plot summary 2005 – A group of astronauts gain superpowers after a cosmic radiation exposure and must use them to oppose the plans of their enemy, Doctor Victor Von Doom. Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Chiklis, Julian McMahon. Directed by Tim Story.
2007 – The Fantastic Four learn that they aren’t the only super-powered beings in the universe when they square off against the powerful Silver Surfer and the planet-eating Galactus. Directed by Tim Story as well, added to the cast Doug Jones.
The source of a lot of GIFs around the internet is this comedy directed by Sylvain White where Chris is accompanied by numerous great actors who bring us a very entertaining movie (thinking on rewatching it myself!).
Plot summary – A CIA special forces team is betrayed and left for dead by their superiors, galvanizing them to mount an offensive on the CIA. Idris Elba, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Óscar Jaenada.
Now I am gonna talk about another comedy more centered on romance, where Chris shares the screen with the wonderful Michelle Monaghan, directed by Justin Reardon.
You can find more than 100 photos on our site since I had the privilege to contacted by Voltage Pictures years ago! 🙂
This movie had its trouble to be released, hence it is not very known by a lot of fans so I hope some of you will find it and enjoy it!
Plot summary – This is the story of ME (Chris Evans), a young man disillusioned by love, who meets a breathtaking young woman, HER (Michelle Monaghan), at a charity dinner by pretending to be a philanthropist. Only one problem: she’s engaged. Yet, he engages into a platonic relationship to be able to keep seeing her. Like a young Walter Mitty using the power of imagination and wild vignettes, HIM will stop at nothing to conquer HER heart. Ioan Gruffudd, Anthony Mackie, Luke Wilson, Topher Grace, Aubrey Plaza, Martin Starr.
6 – Puncture (2011)
I am personally attached to movies and TV shows that explore human struggles and this one based in a true story, in particular, is very touching, as Chris’ character, Mike Weiss, goes through hell as he battles an addiction as he tries to do what’s right.
Plot summary – A David and Goliath law drama about a drug-addicted lawyer who takes on a health supply corporation while battling his own personal demons. Directed by Adam Kassen and Mark Kassen.
7 – Push (2009)
A fan favorite, Push is directed by Paul McGuigan and Chris plays Nick Gant, a movie about young people with abilities that are being hunted down and have to protect themselves in order to survive.
Plot summary – A group of young American ex-pats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities are hiding from a clandestine U.S. government agency. They must utilize their different talents and band together for a final job enabling them to escape the agency forever. Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou, Camilla Belle.
8 – Before We Go (2014)
This film is Chris’ directorial debut and main character alongside Alice Eve, tons of articles about it in the site so check them out!
A romance that tells the story of two strangers randomly meeting in New York and who immediately feel a strong connection between them.
Plot summary – Before We Go tells the story of a missed train that leads to a powerful connection. Stranded in New York, Brooke has nobody who can help her, except Nick, the young trumpet player whom she meets by chance in Grand Central Station. The duo spends the wee hours wandering around the city, and the night becomes one of the discoveries.
9 – Sunshine (2007)
Directed by Danny Boyle, this futuristic movie brings us to the moment when the sun is dying and the consequences, of course, are catastrophic and after the first failed attempt didn’t go as planned, we find Mace (Chris’ character) with his team discovering what happened and with the task of saving mankind.
Plot summary – 50 years into the future, the Sun begins to die, and Earth is dying as a result. A team of astronauts is sent to revive the Sun – but the mission fails. Seven years later, a new team is sent to finish the mission as mankind’s last hope. Cliff Curtis, Cillian Murphy, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh, Benedict Wong.
10 – What’s Your Number? (2011)
I finish the list with another comedy, this one starring Chris Evans and the amazing Anna Faris (check her recent TV Show Mom for many hours of fun!).
I enjoyed this one because most of my friends are male and have been the “playboy style”, including my best friend who would rather listen to my advices on how properly clean his house than read this article so I am safe talking about him, and I’ve seen the male side of this story, with many of them struggling to find a woman who really gets them or the “right one” who finally makes them see the value of a real woman.
Seeing this “process” in the movie always brings a laugh and good memories and who knows… Even hope for many of us! 😉
Plot summary – Ally is a woman who has many ex-boyfriends who turned out to be losers. Now she believes that she can’t find a good guy. But when she runs into one of her exes who is now a ‘Prince Charming’, she decides to look up all of her exes to see if any of them have changed for the better. When she has trouble locating them, she asks her neighbor Colin, who sleeps with a different women every night and sneaks out the morning after to avoid talking to them, to help her. Directed by Mark Mylod.
And if you need anyone to talk to during these days, I am available for you okay? These days we gotta help those in need as well as ask for HELP for ourselves, isolation is dangerous and no one has to be alone through this.
Much love <3
