Variety informs that: The Boston Online Film Critics Assn. favored dark-horse indies on Saturday, naming Snowpiercer the film of the year. Tilda Swinton was tapped supporting actress for the film, nothing for Chris Evans as actor tho.
Other winners are: Fox Searchlight with its Birdman nabbing four prizes: director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, supporting actor Edward Norton, cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, and acting ensemble. Calvary won two prices: actor Brendan Gleeson and for screenplay John Michael McDonagh. Marion Cotillard won the actress award for Two Days One Night, which also won foreign-language film. Best documentary “Life Itself” and score, Mica Levi, “Under the Skin.”
The Boston Online Critics clearly favored arthouse fare rather than the major-studio movies that are also in the Oscar race. But there were some exceptions: the animated film prize went to The Lego Movie, and editing to James Hervert and Laura Jennings for Edge of Tomorrow.
The group created a list of their 10 best movies so far: Snowpiercer, Under the Skin, Boyhood, Only Lovers Left Alive, The Babadook, Two Days One Night,Birdman, Calvary, Inherent Vice and Selma.
